Silver Diamine Fluoride is a liquid that can be used to halt the progression of cavities. This is especially helpful in small children who are not mature enough to handle routine restorative care.

What does Silver diamine fluoride do?

Application of silver diamine fluoride arrests the tooth decay and prevents spreading of tooth decay to other teeth.

How is Silver diamine fluoride application done?

It takes less than 1 minute to apply SDF. Tooth is dried and SDF is scrubbed on decayed part of the tooth using an applicator brush. No Drilling required !!!!

Are there any drawbacks of Silver Diamine Fluoride?

SDF causes blackish discoloration of the decayed part of tooth. This discoloration is permanent. Also, SDF is ineffective in preventing pain in teeth with deep cavities.

How can the discoloration be removed after SDF application?

As the child grows older and becomes mature enough to accept the treatment, the discoloration can be removed using dental drills followed by restoration of tooth surface with either a filling or a crown.
